An IBM Midrange User Group

April 11, 2006

Presentation Description:
Over the past few years, the concept of Open Source has grown from a novel idea to a force that is changing the IT landscape. Most of us have heard of LINUX. This is probably the most popular example of an open source project. Today, functionally rich systems and applications are challenging traditional vendor written applications. These span the breadth from Office productivity, to server and database tools, to full blown Accounting and ERP systems, to web development and security. Open Source applications run on Linux, Unix, MS Windows, OS/400 (i5/OS),Lotus Domino and many more. And they can be entirely FREE to acquire.

In this roundtable discussion, led by Ed Weingartner of AS/Computer Consultants, learn what Open Source is. See examples of real live applications that you can run on your own PCs or servers. Find out where you can go to get more information on Open Source.
Bring some of you're own projects and share your own experiences with the group.
